Completed Projects

Since 1996, RMA has provided risk management protection for Florida fruit trees (including oranges, grapefruit, other citrus, lemons, limes, avocados, mangos, and carambola). The program is still in a pilot phase and is now available in 29 counties.floridalogo

An evaluation completed and listening sessions held in 2001 indicated that producers desired major changes before the pilot program is made permanent, in order to meet their risk management needs. Task Order (TO) RMA-RED-02-08, Research and Product Development for Florida Fruit Trees, was released by RMA and awarded to AgriLogic, Inc. (AgriLogic) on September 30, 2002. The TO requires AgriLogic to determine the feasibility of these requested modifications.

Research

Since September 2002, AgriLogic has worked closely with Florida Citrus Mutual, the University of Florida - IFAS, Citrus Extension, and the University of Florida - IFAS, Tropical Research and Education Center (TREC) in Homestead to meet this objective.

Preliminary discussions between AgriLogic and its subcontractors were held in Lakeland and Homestead in November and December of 2002.

 Listening Sessions

Listening sessions for insurance company representatives, producers, and all other interested parties were held on June 18 (Avon Park), June 19 (Vero Beach), and June 20, 2003 (Homestead) to present preliminary recommendations and to obtain industry feedback. Based on industry feedback gained from the meetings, AgriLogic made final recommendations to RMA on July 21.
AgriLogic is currently awaiting RMA’s comments on the final recommendations. A revised presentation will be posted in mid-September once these comments are received. Please check back at that time.

Please do not hesitate to contact AgriLogic with questions or concerns.
