The Pomegranate Crop Insurance Program developed by AgriLogic Consulting was approved by the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation (FCIC) Board of Directors on August 18, 2022. Pomegranates are a high value tree fruit crop predominately grown in the San Joaquin Valley of California. This insurance program will provide pomegranate producers in major California pomegranate producing counties with a federally subsidized yield-based risk management tool covering natural causes of loss such as frost during bloom and excess precipitation during fruit maturation. Coverage is based on a producer’s actual production history (APH). APH crop insurance programs are currently available for a number of other crops in the same region including almonds, citrus, olives, and pistachios. AgriLogic is currently working with the USDA Risk Management Agency (RMA) to implement the program. Once available, producers will be able to purchase coverage from Approved Insurance Providers (AIPs). Additional program details will soon be available.
