Forage Revenue

The Forage Revenue Insurance Program is currently being developed by AgriLogic Consulting along with the National Alfalfa & Forage Alliance. This program is designed to provide producers with federally subsidized revenue protection for their forage production.

Since the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service reports that forage production accounts for the fourth-highest use of acreage in the United States, this program will extend much needed revenue protection to forage producers. The general structure for the coverage is similar to the widely utilized revenue protection insurance plans which have long been available for major commodity crops such as corn, soybeans, wheat, and cotton and includes both price and yield protection. An indemnity would be triggered when the revenue from forage production falls below the insurance guarantee due to an insured cause of loss. Once developed and approved by the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation Board of Directors, the Forage Revenue Insurance Program will be a federally subsidized crop insurance program available through Approved Insurance Providers (AIPs).
